I offered to help clean, pouring water on to the mucky pan and “letting it soak,” in the dual sink. A tip picked up from Dad which made Mom scoff. When Dad finally emerged, we gathered at the ‘U’ dinette to devour the food Mom so eloquently prepared. In no time we were outside, Dad stretching deep into the exterior storage compartment for the fishing gear. For a moment, I was stunned, watching the aluminum siding shimmer in the sunlight, before we went out, prowling through the trees towards the water. I’ll never forget that weekend.
