The excitement is palpable as you roll into the campsite. Birds chirp, the sun cascading a blanket of warmth on the surrounding forest bed, and the sigh of relief as dad parks the 2013 Cougar 28RBSWE travel trailer just right. The kids clamor to reserve the top bunk before anyone else can, as mom and dad unpack from the large storage compartments—fishing rods, marshmallow and hot sticks. Starting the fire, the BBQ on the rear rack gets hooked up too (hopefully the burgers weren’t forgotten this time). Looking up at the centuries old trees with awe, dad is proud he was able to tow such a unit into this majesty, it being under 7,000 lbs anyhow.
Retreat inside where the cool, inviting wood floors and fixtures give off a cozy cabin vibe. The tunes come on and mom dances about, dad cheering from the sofa-bed, his claps resonating off the walls as the kids sit around the ‘U’ dinette heavy in a game of Uno (things could get ugly). As the evening winds down, the pack assembles for family movie night, complete with snacks and all the comforts of home.
The smell of sizzling veggies in the evening and that of bacon in the morning fills the RV. Mom expertly chops the ingredients on the solid countertops she pulled from the fridge and deep pantry, while dad works his magic at the 3-burner stove and oven, as the kids hover as eager taste testers crowding the dual sink up front.
They fought and one conquered, and now their restful bodies climb atop the rear bunks and embrace the night ahead. A light in each bunk gives them a chance to sneak in a few chapters before their eyes give up.
A bubble bath would be nice, mom thinks, glaring down at the tub as she enters the rear bathroom from the outside door after snuffing out the fire. She stretches out her legs in-front of the foot-flush toilet before brushing her teeth at the full vanity and sink, ready for bed.
An oasis all on its own, mom and dad crawl under the covers of their queen bed, pajamas already on from the overhead closet, and drift off to sleep, ready for tomorrow’s full day of family fun.
