July 26, 1999: The early morning sun poked through the blinds, hitting my face. I would be mad if I wasn’t in my 1998 Airstream Excella 34 travel trailer, far from the reaches of my normal life. For how comfy my rear queen bed is, I want to be out there. I can hear the kids rustling up front too—I need to hurry into the bathroom first so I can wash up in the standing shower and brush my teeth at the large vanity before having to fight for the space as everyone else wakes up. Afterwards we’ll plan our day. Hiking, walking down to the lake, lounging about. The massive wardrobe in the hall and above the bed holds whatever we may need whatever we choose.
July 26, 2008: I love the smell of bacon anytime of day. At the booth dinette, the scent still lingers from the 3-burner stove, the pan now soaking in the dual sink. A steaming cup of coffee sits in front of me. Needs a little more cream from the fridge. My mom is already hungry again as she reaches for a loaf of bread in the built-in breadbox.
July 26, 2020: The pitter patter of the rain atop the aluminum siding is soothing, a much needed sensation after this year. I’m writing this on the folding built-in table in the front living area, the couch stretching the entire length of the trailer. My parents are chatting at the dinette while my brother, the bookworm he is, sits on the swivel chair book in hand. The stories this thing could tell makes me wonder about what’s still to come.
