Perhaps a little too eager, I plopped down at the booth dinette to eat (don’t even think I tasted the food). As the sun set, Dad took me to the garage to teach me poker at the removable table, putting the screen up around the garage door to keep the bugs out, while Mom rested on the couch curled up with a book, some tunes coming from the entertainment centre.
Reluctantly, I mosied on over to the bathroom to get ready for bed. Dad was in the shower, Mom was doing her skincare at the vanity, and thankfully, the toilet was in its own area behind a door so we could all freshen up at the same time. They slithered into their queen bed after putting on pajamas from their dresser as I climbed into the loft bunk in the living area. As everyone slept, I listened to the critters outside as I drifted off. At that moment I realized I was just as excited about tomorrow as Dad was when we first got here.
