What a beautiful day at the campsite as always—grandma and grandpa are posting at the fire beside their 2011 Lacrosse 301RLS travel trailer, the 34.5-foot unit glistening under the sun. Where are the grandkids? Finding their way through the trees, but it’s getting a little later so they should be back any time. Let’s rewind to lunch where they watched grandpa flipping burgers on the rear BBQ rack, the grill now back in its home in the pass-through storage compartment up front. What an amazing display that was earlier. And look at that, the grandkids are rounding the hill in the distance, but it seems they’ve brought some dark clouds with them.
Off they go! The hustle inside was a marvel to witness, they must’ve practiced that for days to pull it off. And without a moment’s hesitation, grandma and grandma rush to the kitchen to prepare dinner. With lightning speed, grandma grabs the ingredients from the 4-door fridge and chops them up as grandpa fires up the 3-burner stove and oven, pulling out the pots and sheets. They take turns stirring the pot, throwing in various spices from the rack attached to the wall—could be a risky move, but the grandkids seem eager to chow down, restless at the ‘U’ dinette.
If you thought they couldn’t perform any better, you’d be wrong. The grandkids are in the kitchen doing the dishes in the dual sink, and off grandma and grandpa have gone to the rear to flick on the fireplace and get a movie ready to go in the entertainment centre. It’s not easy to do all this simultaneous work, but they make it seem so effortless. And wow, the dishes are done and off the little ones go curling up on the couch with the rear rockers occupied by the grandparents—excellent form.
The rain is coming down hard now and it’s getting late, but that’s not stopping this family, even as they yawn and eyes begin to droop. The next event is coming quickly and their strategy is to take turns in the front bathroom to take showers in the spacious standing shower, drying off and getting ready in front of the full vanity and sink with all that floorspace. They can really use that when on the foot-flush toilet late at night, no numb legs in this trailer. One by one they run the circuit, ending at the slide-out closet to throw on their pajamas before crawling into bed—the little ones in the rear on the sofa-bed, and grandma and grandpa in the front under the covers of their queen bed. And just like that, the day’s adventures have come to a close and they’ll be going on tomorrow with what I expect to be another wondrous play.
