RV Kitchen Essentials (Updated!)
It’s time to pimp your kitchen (insert upbeat music here!) Whether it’s a weekend jaunt or month long haul, adding a few gadgets and upgrades to your RV kitchen can make your meals a little simpler and help you save space.
Instant Pot: An Instant Pot is extremely versatile, and allows you to cook meals in your RV faster, while taking up minimal space.
They use less energy and cook 70% faster than an oven, there’s no need to defrost (it will happily cook frozen food) and it also uses a lot less water than steaming. There are a bunch of easy Instant Pot recipes online, and a few on this blog too 😉
AeroPress or Pour Over Coffee: With an AeroPress, you can make a delicious cup of coffee without taking up precious countertop space. Another option is a pour-over which only requires hot water and a filter. Both options take up way less space than a traditional coffee maker and are so much tastier than instant coffee.
Cast Iron Pans: This is one of the best inventions since sliced bread or Netflix. The versatile cast iron pan allows you to cook on your RV stove or over the campfire and has a bunch of benefits. They have a long life span, are also nonstick when treated properly, chemical-free, can be used with both the stove and oven and are easy to clean.
Anything Collapsible: These days you can find almost everything for your kitchen that collapses to save space: look for strainers, cups, and bowls. You can even find a collapsible dish drying rack!
Knives with covers: Look, a knife block can slide around and tossing everything sharp in a drawer is asking for trouble. Getting knives or other sharp utensils with covers can help keep you organized and with all your fingers intact.
Stainless steel cups: You ever take a too sharp turn or brake too fast and think “well, there goes the glasses.” Invest in some steel settings to give yourself some piece of mind. Many are extremely light and stackable so won’t add extra weight or take up extra space.
Durable dishes: You can buy sets of durable dishes, such as melamine dishware, that are more resistant to damage and are great for travel. They’re lightweight and more environmentally friendly than disposable dishes.
Stackable or nesting pots and pans: If you’re looking to make full use of your kitchen, sets of pots that easily stack together will help you save space while not sacrificing utility.
RV trash can (collapsible): To keep tidy at camp, packing a trash can that can collapse or fold up will help save space. They come in a variety of sizes and all you need to do is throw in a garbage bag to make full use of them inside and out.
