Jazz Up Your Tuna Sandwich

Tuna. Tons of protein and a great sandwich staple. But sometimes it gets boring. Mayo, maybe pickles or celery. Simple, quick, reliable.

How about we look at a few great ways to add some flavor to that old-school sandwich – and you probably already have them in the kitchen!

Personal favorite: Old-Bay Seasoning; If you don’t already have this, get it. Get it now. It is the best seasoning for fish, whether you’re boiling, grilling, baking, or mixing up some tuna salad. It goes great on most of our aquatic friends like halibut, tuna, haddock, cod, crab, lobster, crawdads, shrimp. YUM!

Other great additions and substitutions:

  • Mayonnaise OR oil, vinegar, or salad dressing
    • Oils: you can try anything from olive oil to toasted same oil for different flavors and added moisture
    • Vinegars: regular white, apple cider, wine, or rice – the list is endless of different varieties to add some tang
  • Lemon juice
  • Hot sauce
  • Dijon mustard
  • Hummus: can give your tuna a dip like texture, and added protein
  • Greek yogurt or sour cream, for added creaminess and tartness
  • Mashed avocado

Don’t be afraid to dive into your spice rack:

  • Curry powder
  • Buffalo seasoning
  • Lemon pepper
  • Italian seasoning

For added crunch:

  • Minced onion
  • Sweet pickle relish or diced pickles
