7 Simple Health Tips

If you’re the RVer to constantly be on the go it’s important to maintain some sort of routine. It helps us feel calm in times of upheaval, gives us a sense of stability, and can help you maintain a healthier outlook on life.

Here are 7 easy things to add to your routine, whether it be daily, weekly, or by location!

1. Clean Your RV

The basic se-up of an RV lends itself to more easily tracking dirt and grime inside, as well as other messes. The easiest thing to do, at least once a week (more if you have kids or pets) is to just wipe everything down. Do your best to put things away after they’re used in the same spot every time, and don’t do the fridge leftovers shuffle or it’ll get gross fast.

2. Meet New People

Friends are motivators and road life can get lonely. Make friends with your neighbors, they could turn into life-long relationships. Share stories, tips, recipes. Plan to meet up down the road. Expanding your social circle means every day you have a new ‘phone a friend’ lifeline to grab if need be.

3. Take a ‘Me’ Day

On the opposite end of the spectrum, there’s the ‘me’ day. Instead of packing your day with activities, socialization, and adventures, sit back and unwind. Taking time to yourself can help you avoid burn-out and stress. There’s no need to rush; grab a book, watch a movie, take a nap. You’re not procrastinating or avoiding something else, you’re taking a well-deserved recharge.

4. Cook Instead of Eating Out

Hitting a drive-thru is always easy and convenient, but cooking for yourself can be healthier, more sustainable and a lot better for your general health. A Big Mac can sometimes hit the spot and there’s always a tiny rush of patriotism when I get a Timmies (even if it’s never as good as you hope), but having a home-cooked meal can also be just what the doctor ordered, soul or otherwise.

5. Work Out

Lots of travelers out there pay for a gym membership that can be used across the country, like GoodLife, or even the YMCA. But you can always workout without access to a physical gym. Pack yoga mats, hand weights if you want to be fancy, or just plan to be able to swim, jog, or do some at-camp cardio.

6. Get Outside

This is among the easiest things to do while RVing in any capacity. Getting outside and getting active blasts you with all the happy brain chemicals AND a dose of Vitamin D. Even a quick 10-20 minute walk around a park can help you reset.

7. Keep Positive

Above all else: stay positive. It’s not always as easy as think happy thoughts, but trying to maintain a positive attitude in the face of things like RV whoopsies, bad traffic, irritating camp neighbors, etc is the best way to stay healthy while traveling. How you look at the world and experience it is about fifty percent of your actual experience.
