No muss, no fuss, this 2011 Sunseeker 3100 SS is the perfect unit for your next family road trip (whether the kids like it or not)! This rig is super comfy with plenty of storage space inside and out with the reliability of a Ford E450 chassis and V10 engine.
Inside you’ll find the living space and kitchen have been optimized for comfort and function. You’ve got plenty of overhead cabinet storage in the main living area over the convertible sofa (which has three seatbelts) so every family member can have some personal storage space and you can avoid any sibling spats. Opposite the couch is a swivel chair for chill family mornings or evening game nights. Just beware any daredevils who want to parkour off it up to the bunk area, that’s what the ladder is for!
In the cabover bunk area you can sleep two adults (or one sprawling teenager) or use it as additional storage if need be. However, OCD buyers beware, the power outlet up in the bunk area is crooked. The mounted TV can swing to face the living area (great for travel days to avoid “are we there yet?”) or the bunk for movie nights. Definitely plan on waking anyone who watched a scary movie by dropping a pan in the kitchen in the morning, see how high they jump it’ll be fun!
Speaking of the kitchen, it has a 3-burner stove, oven, a microwave, dual sided sink, a 6 cu-ft fridge and plenty of cabinet and drawer storage. They really went out of their way to pack a drawer or cupboard wherever they could in this unit! So, you’ll be able to feed even the hungriest of growing teenagers.
If you’re looking at the pictures and worrying there isn’t a huge amount of counter space don’t worry, there is a flip up counter extension opposite the sink for additional room. Whether you start the morning with a bang or a whimper, you’ll have plenty of options hidden away for waking the kids. Because what is a family trip if you don’t get to torture each other a little bit.
Once everyone is awake and sufficiently caffeinated, you can have breakfast at the booth dinette (which also doubles as more secure seating during travel, and triples as another convertible bed) And yes there’s even
more storage over the dinette, and under each bench. Maybe assign a cabinet to each family member when you’re loading and unloading so you don’t forget anything at the end of the season! No one wants to find last year’s socks after a few months of winter storage (parents, I’m sure you know the feeling when entering your teen’s room…)
By the way, the dinette and couch are in the slide, which means you get a good amount of floor space in the unit once everything is set up! It’s cozy without being cramped so when you rally the whole family (and maybe a boyfriend or girlfriend you’re hoping to lose in the woods, we don’t judge) you won’t feel like you’re on top of one another!
The bathroom plan is great in this unit for how it balances the use of space; the shower is on one side of the rig with the toilet and sink in their own cubby opposite. You can swing the door open to give yourself some extra privacy from the main area of the unit though, so don’t worry about getting in or out of the shower! There’s a nicely sized bathroom counter, two mirrors, a medicine cabinet, and an under-counter cupboard.
Mom and dad need some privacy from the crazy kids though? At the back of the unit is a queen bed with wardrobes on either side with an inset shelf each for stashing small items like glasses while you sleep, as well as overhead cupboards. Leave your little hellions to their own devices for the night and get some shut eye in peace. Just remind them that any blood spilt has to be cleaned up by them before you wake up! Ignorance is bliss afterall.
Other than that, we should make a quick mention that there is a lock missing on one of the exterior storage doors, but hey we’ve knocked off a few grand for that and a few other areas of light wear and tear in some of the storage spaces. A comparable, brand new Sunseeker is practically double the price! Feel free to check my math.
Now if all that sounds good to you, this rig will be great for that next family outing. Assemble everyone (and hey, the dog too!) and head out for some family fun!
This unit also has a 400-watt genset (850 hours), ducted A/C, power awning, exterior shower, 6-gal DSI water heater, exterior ladder, slide topper, tinted windows, spare wheel, LP detector (CO2), smoke detector,
TV antenna, pass through storage in the rear, a rear hitch (for a 5000 lb towing capacity) and is already winterized.
