Above the tall pines, the sun starts to set as dark clouds roll in, and with that, Jake along with his kids head back to home base, the 2022 Montana 385BR fifth wheel. Sarah, his wife, sits by the fire, the camp kitchen with mini-fridge, cutting board, and 2-burner stove keeping her hydrated and well-fed as she takes in the sun, their golden doodle Max resting beside her. The others round the hill with Max greeting them, the kids ecstatic about their day out in the woods, roughing it like their ancestors.
Sarah rushes inside, the warmth of the kitchen inviting, and gets to work. She pulls fresh ingredients out from the pantry and large 4-door fridge before preparing on the solid, extendible countertops. Firing up the 3-burner stove and oven, she throws everything together and with it, the aroma circulating around the unit as the kids place the plates and cutlery at the free-standing dinette. A moment of peace as they eat and laugh together before the kids set up to wash the dishes, the massive dual sink in the middle of the island giving enough space to do so without them touching each other (always a point of contention).Â
The air becomes cool as the rain begins to fall, and the family huddle to the rear living area, the electric fireplace glowing as they stay warm, watching a movie on the flatscreen TV. Jake and Sarah lean back in the theater recliners, as the kids curl up on the couch before they get antsy and rush into the den in the hallway, their own private room.
As the night wears on, and eyes start to flutter, they make their way to the front bathroom, taking turns in the mini spa. They wash up in the spacious standing shower, large enough to clean the dirt off areas dirt shouldn’t have even gotten into. Dry off in front of the full vanity and sink with a ton of room between that and the foot-flush toilet (perfect for Jake’s 20-minute bathroom visits so his legs won’t go numb). As they all finish, and everyone slips into their cozy pajamas, the day’s clothes get thrown in the washer/dryer Jake installed in the bedroom thanks to the prep for which that was already there.
Like drifting off on a cloud, they sleep. The kids silent in the loft bunk in the hallway and the hide-a-bed couch in the rear, Max sleeping on the foot of the bed, and Jake and Sarah in the front bedroom, the covers draping over them in the king-sized bed as they listen to the soft plop of the rain. It’s a good thing they have their rain gear stashed in the closet beside them.
