June 28, 2026: School’s out and the week has been taken off from work. We’ve settled into our stunning lakefront campsite, the 32-foot 3-slide 2017 Glacier Peak 30RDS fifth wheel gleaming as we make the best of our Canada Day vacation. Already, we have pulled our chairs from the large pass-through storage and have set up shop in-front of the campfire, singing songs and roasting marshmallows. The sun is high in the sky, powering our solar panel for tonight—though at this rate, we may not even make it inside before we’re completely worn out.
August 2, 2026: The August-Long weekend is drawing to a close, and while we’re all exhausted from our adventures (or perhaps mid-adventures), we’re reluctant for it to end. For our final dinner, we’ve taken refuge inside, firing up the 3-burner stove and oven for some steaks, roasted veggie medley, and anything else we could grab from the fridge and deep pantry. Everyone pitched in where they could—dad chopping away on the solid countertops, and the kids busied themselves at the farmhouse style sink in the kitchen island, cleaning up away from us adults. After dinner we gathered in the back, dad and myself in the recliners, and the kids around the ‘U’ dinette so they could draw while we watched Dogman for the 15th time.
September 5, 2026: Today was a messy day. Out and about in the mud, it was caked onto our skin. And the sweat, don’t get me started on the sweat (like rushing rivers). Thank goodness for our bathroom. Stepping into the expansive shower, we could move freely, removing as much dirt and grime as we could—even from spots I still can’t figure out how it got there. There’s a linen closet for everyone’s towels, and tons of space in-front of the porcelain throne for dad’s 20-minute visits. Drying off, I looked over at the row of toothbrushes and smiled. I was so happy we could all be here today, enjoying ourselves. I then grabbed the hair dryer attached to the wall to finish to let someone else have a turn.
October 11, 2026: The leaves have long since fallen, and a delicate, thin blanket of snow covers the grass, the only marks upon it being fresh rabbit tracks. The thermal pane windows and sound structure of the RV makes it perfect for these late season camping trips. As the sun goes down sooner each day, I become tired earlier and so, I am writing this under the covers of my cozy queen bed. Underneath the bed in the drawer is a wool blanket should I get colder, my parka hanging in the closet, thick socks in the dresser, and toque and mitts in the bench at the foot of the bed. Time to get some shut eye, tomorrow we head and have Thanksgiving dinner with the rest of the family.
